This past Saturday was my first cooking class at the Raindrop Turkish Cultural Center, and I must say, it was loads of fun. I think there were just 5 of us (or was it 4?), and then 4 Turkish ladies led the class. We were shown how to cook a Red Lentil Soup, Eggplant Moussaka, a Shepherd's Salad, rice, and of course, the big finish--baklava!!
I was shocked at how simple it all really was--I never knew baklava could be so easy to make!!! We left completely stuffed and happy at having attended. The hosts were so kind and gracious and made us feel right at home, and I cannot wait until next week's lesson. I'm even planning on making baklava to share at one of the Christmas parties we'll be attending this season.
You know, I could have stayed home Saturday night (which at one point I was really tempted to do), but I wouldn't have had nearly as much fun sitting at home reading as I did at the class. There are just some times when you feel so fortunate to have been a part of an event, and this is one for me. I've really become fond of the Turkish families affiliated with MJ's school. They are truly some of the kindest people I've ever known in my life, and everytime we leave one of their homes, I always think how much they bless my life and how much richer I am for knowing them.
So to them I say, "Tesekkür ederim."
