Master Kayaker at Your Service

Well up to now, I haven't had a chance to blog about our kayaking expedition on Lake Overholser the other evening, but I wanted to report that it was mahhhvelous! The young gal manning the counter was fantastic, friendly, and very helpful, even doing a little demonstration on entering and exiting the kayak for me, Marc, and a dad with his 4 kids who were ahead of us. After toting our kayaks down to the dock and getting in, we paddled away towards the Stinchcomb nature preserve on the north end of the lake. What fun! It was so peaceful, no boats came zipping by, jacking up my groove or anything. The water was a bit low, but hey--it was high enough for us to paddle through, so that's all I needed. It was a GREAT upper body workout, but surprisingly, I thought I would be more sore the next day than I was. Does this mean I'm in better shape than I thought? Yes. Yes, it does. So shut up.

We're planning--or should I say we ARE GOING--on a getaway camping trip this weekend to Blue River over by Tishomingo. Marc has been there many times before on his yearly buddy trout trips, and he said even though it'll still be 80s, there's always a good breeze and cooler weather there. I'm game--whatever. Just plop me down in my camping papasan chair with my latest knitting project and make sure there are some s'mores for later, and I'm good.

Speaking of knitting, I started on my vintage-style cardigan a couple of nights ago, and it's going quite smoothly, I might say! Granted, I'm still on the bottom portion, but dang it, I think this might be a great project, and I'm excited that it's knit as all one piece, which minimizes the seaming. I think that is the ONLY thing about knitting that I'm not super jazzed about...and I don't even really mind that! But the fewer seams, the better. And I actually think I'll have it done in time to wear it for the fall weather. AND I love the color! It's a deep purplish-blue. AND when I knitted my swatch, my gauge was spot on! So here's to hoping for a worry-free, problem-free project. And no more sentences starting with 'and.'

Cheers.
